Main Goal

Efficiently combine compute and storage resource functionality over a unified ultra-high capacity converged digital/analog Fiber-Wireless (FiWi) Radio Access Network (RAN) for 5G.

Nextworks role
Design and develop an SDN controller for the mixed data plane (mmWave, FiWi), work on NFV/MEC orchestration and network slicing and on a monitoring framework from multi-technology network domains and the hybrid cloud/edge.
 

Main Goal

Design architectures and implement Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution (CV-QKD) technologies in high-performance photonic integrated circuits (PIC), define the related interfaces and control protocols to allow a network-aware software defined functionality and open modular development that can meet the needs of the secure telecommunications.

Nextworks role
Model QKD control network, lead the development activities on Software defined QKD control plane and evaluate QKD systems in telecom infrastructures.

Main Goal

QAMeleon designs and delivers a new generation of SDN-programmable photonic components, modules and subsystems, employing sliceability as a means of optimizing resource utilization and cutting operator costs by >30%. All necessary SDN software extensions, plugins and application interfaces are being developed, providing a complete functional SDN framework for the sliceable “white box” subsystems. QAMeleon’s devices will be validated in scalable demonstrators at Nokia’s lab infrastructure and on TIM’s deployed regional network fiber plant.

Main Goal
Design and implement SDN/NFV-based 5G Mobile Transport and Computing Platform (MTP) to simultaneously support specific needs of vertical industries (automotive, healthcare and media) via Network Slicing. In 5G-TRANSFORMER, the transport network and various computing fabrics are aggregated and federated, from the edge up to the core and cloud, to create and manage MTP slices throughout a federated virtualized infrastructure. 

Main Goal
Develop end-to-end solution for optical intra- and inter-datacenter architectures, with hybrid electronic-optical network in the datacenter and SDN for control.

Nextworks role
Leader of the intra-DC control plane developments: SDN (OpenDaylight) + PCE.

Main Goal
SDN based network control and service orchestration for flat, scalable data center network architectures, empowered by novel optical technologies (scalable TOR optical switches, ultra-high capacity interconnects, large port density).
