Efficiently combine compute and storage resource functionality over a unified ultra-high capacity converged digital/analog Fiber-Wireless (FiWi) Radio Access Network (RAN) for 5G.

Nextworks role
Design and develop an SDN controller for the mixed data plane (mmWave, FiWi), work on NFV/MEC orchestration and network slicing and on a monitoring framework from multi-technology network domains and the hybrid cloud/edge.
 

Main Goal

Design architectures and implement Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution (CV-QKD) technologies in high-performance photonic integrated circuits (PIC), define the related interfaces and control protocols to allow a network-aware software defined functionality and open modular development that can meet the needs of the secure telecommunications.

Nextworks role
Model QKD control network, lead the development activities on Software defined QKD control plane and evaluate QKD systems in telecom infrastructures.

Main Goal

Design, develop and offer an open source, agile programming, orchestrating and verification DevOps platform based on SDN/NFV tools for media services and applications in 5G networks. 

Nextworks role

Work on micro-Cloud Platforms and develop the 5G-MEDIA Open Repository with generic Network Apps for media VNF lifecyle. Apply the 5G-MEDIA framework to the High Demanding UHD over Open CDNs Pilot.

Main Goal
Design and implement SDN/NFV-based 5G Mobile Transport and Computing Platform (MTP) to simultaneously support specific needs of vertical industries (automotive, healthcare and media) via Network Slicing. In 5G-TRANSFORMER, the transport network and various computing fabrics are aggregated and federated, from the edge up to the core and cloud, to create and manage MTP slices throughout a federated virtualized infrastructure.
